About Chulynda

How do you put yourself back together after the world breaks you?

I’m Chulynda Castellanos, the artist and designer behind Salt Hippy—a Florida-based creative studio rooted in color, nature, and resilience. My journey as an artist wasn’t a straight path. I’ve always been a creative spirit, someone who saw beauty in the everyday. But like many of us, I lost that part of myself somewhere along the way.

While stationed in Guam during my service in the Navy, my life changed forever. The sudden, tragic loss of my husband led me to abruptly return to the United States and ultimately separate from military service. I found myself navigating intense grief, a major life transition, and single motherhood—all without a clear roadmap.

One quiet night, while my daughter slept and the house stood still, I reached for a paintbrush. That small, instinctive act became the first step in rediscovering who I was.

Through watercolor, ink, and digital design, I create vibrant, flowing patterns inspired by nature—especially the coastal estuaries and wild beauty of the Florida Panhandle. My work seeks harmony: the contrast of loose organic forms and bold black lines, softness and strength, joy and sorrow. It's a reflection of life’s dualities and our ability to keep going.

Today, Salt Hippy is a celebration of creative living, soul-led design, and the healing power of art. I hope each piece brings a sense of peace, joy, and connection to those who find it. I’m open to art licensing opportunities, brand collaborations, and meaningful creative projects that align with my values—bold aesthetics, natural inspiration, and intentional design. Whether through surface design, watercolor, or digital illustration, I’m passionate about partnering with brands and creatives who believe in the power of art to connect, uplift, and inspire.

To the dreamers, the free spirits, and the resilient—may we keep bringing color to this world, one brushstroke at a time.
