About Chulynda

How do put yourself back together after the world breaks you?

I’ve always been a creative person who found beauty in even the most mundane circumstances. Growing up, I forgot the creative part of me until a tragic accident left my heart broken and reaching for a paintbrush.

I had just moved back to the United States from Guam after serving a tour overseas. I thought coming back home would comfort me after my husband died tragically, but it wasn’t that simple. Only a few days had passed since separating from the Navy, and I was lost at what to do next. I sat alone in the kitchen one night, while my daughter slept in the other room. The world felt so lonely and confusing. The only thing I could do at that moment was to reach for the paintbrush in front of me.

This became a journey of finding my center and walking back home to myself.

I seek to create a balance between vibrant colors and flowy bold black lines; a metaphor for the journeys we lead throughout of lives.

To those who have persevered, the free-spirited, and dreamers of serenity, let us paint this world in the color of beauty one brush stroke at a time
